He discusses which Facebook and Instagram ad placements he recommends using, why he particularly avoids Audience Network and Messenger for lead generation campaigns and how these placements can impact lead quality. Nick also explains how to use account-level placement controls and Meta’s Value Rules to reduce wasted ad spend on unwanted placements while still giving Meta enough flexibility to optimise your Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns. The episode also covers creative formatting for different placements and why allowing Meta to optimise across multiple placements can help get your ads in front of better prospects.

It's the best way to help the podcast grow and keep bringing you valuable content every week. Let's get on with the podcast. Hello and welcome back to the podcast myself. Today we're going to talk about something that's leaving meta in our house manager. And it's it can be seen as a bit of a problem, but it's not really affecting the way I do things and the way that you guys do things. If you are listening to this podcast and doing things the way I teach you, placements are leaving. So what do we mean by a placement? Well, a placement is where your ad is shown. It's where everything is shown. Okay, so if we are on our mobile, if we're on a desktop, all these different places are placements, reels, Facebook reels, feeds, video. I'm going to read them out rather than just guessing them. So these are disappearing from ads managers quite slowly. I've not seen it in my account yet, but I have had a couple of members and clients say that they're no longer seeing it. So we need to figure out a way of keeping them going in a good way, because there are some advantages of being able to select what placements we use. Hey, while I've got you, I just wanted to ask. Would you like me to go into your ads manager and actually see what's working? Because I bet your ads aren't broken and I bet we can fix something. There's a reason our top clients stop guessing and start scaling. So if you've got campaigns that are burning cash, or you're having trouble barely even breaking even on them, let's have a look and let's see what we can fix. 100% no fluff, no sales pitch, just a pro-level ad review. So book your 30 minute free Facebook ad review session and walk away with some instant wins. Go to the Ads Clinic icon and book your call today. Do it now before you forget, but make sure you come back to listen to the rest of the podcast. Enjoy! So I'm going into my account now just so I can get these in front of me. And there we go. Right. So when we go into placements we have 21 placements. And they are labeled as a a a category setting feeds story status, reels in stream ads for reals, search results, app and sites. Now what I do recommend and if you've been listening to my podcast and recommendations and on my YouTube, is that the ones I always turn off are audience Network, native banner and Interstitial and Audience Network rewarded videos. I also like to turn off messenger, which is in stories reels, and it's also in feeds simply because we just don't get audience. Network is very, very cheap, very cheap, and it goes out to third party sites, gaming sites, apps and things like that, just not areas where the person who is likely to see around is going to be a good lead. Okay, they're not paying that much of attention. They might just click it. Bots come in that way. I just don't like it. It's not good. And when we when we've tested these things out, when we exclude messenger and audience network are leads get better. Now we also have in here Facebook feed, Facebook profile feed, Instagram feed, Instagram Reels stories, Facebook real stories, all of them, right? 21 of them in total. Now what I do recommend, and I have them for ages is we don't turn any of these off. Okay. The only ones I want to turn off is Messenger and Audience Network. I want all the other placements on on, simply because it gives Metta as many good placements to go out to place our ads. And we've done we've often talked about the title of creative formatting that we want to use, whether we're using, nine by 16, which is the full phone size, and then making the important information in the square area. We've talked about that simply because we can get our ads to look good in every single placement. Right. We're now moving quite towards 4.5, turning some AI on in the enhancements so that you can stretch out and feel that because we have a lot of our students, have trouble when they're doing nine by 16 size formats to get everything they want into the four by five. And if you are struggling to understand what we're talking about, have a look back at some of my podcasts where we talk about placement sizes and creative. But overall, I want to keep all these on. Now my only because I haven't got a problem with keeping them all on. I haven't got a problem with the disappearing. Apart from the audience network. That is my biggest bugbear here. So if if I come into my account one day and I see that I can't exclude audience network as the the the worst one, if I have to keep messenger, fine. But if it's audience network but I can't get rid of, that's a problem because loads of rubbish. And I definitely would lead gen and especially Instant Forms with Audience network switched on. Just loads of crap comes through, right? I'm sure you guys would agree if you've got experience there. So I turn those off. If we can't turn this off, what do we do? Right. So scenario we come in, we go down to our placements for a new campaign and we can't switch them off. So what do we do? Well done. Some having a look around. We need to go into some of our advertising settings. So if we go into our advertising settings and click that to open it, just waiting for it to load, it says we have placement controls okay. And in here it says placement controls. These controls exclude placements across all campaigns for this ad account to avoid unnecessary performance loss. Only exclude placement placements when required for your business. So if I switch that on now, the only ones it gives me is app and sites and feeds. So and in those is app Insights. We can turn off because it's automatically defaulted on audience network native Bannon in terrestrial can't pronounce a word and audience network related rewarded videos. Now I'm going to switch those off feeds marketplace and and Facebook right column there okay so I can literally click I can I've turned untick audience network. Both of them review changes confirm. And now it is set in my ad account okay. Which is perfect. So I've now got placement controls on it. Will make sure that anything I set up is excluding those two placements. Brilliant. Thank you very much. The other thing we can do is value rules. So if I go into one of my ads and go to edit it and I go into my ad set, scroll down and we will see more options. And just before more options where it says attribution model, we saw that we'll see value rules. Now I can create a rule in here. So I can go in here. I can click understand Terms and conditions I can then I've got value rules pop up, come up onto the page, prioritize the audiences, placements and other factors that matter most to your business. By Justin bids for them. So I can click on that. And there's one I have audience and placement. So I'm going to select placement. Select placement. And now I've got Facebook feed, Facebook stories, Facebook Reels, Instagram feed, Instagram Stories, Instagram Reels and others. Audience Network I'm going to take Audience Network and then underneath it I can have choose how much to bid on outcomes that meet your criteria. Well, I don't want to increase my bid at all by default. At the moment it's saying placement audience increase my bid by 50%. Well, I don't want to. I want to click on that and I can click decrease bit. And I'm going to change that from from 50% to 99%, which is only allows me to 90%. So I can say, I want you to decrease any of my bids out of my budget, daily budget by 90%. If you think about sending it to the audience network, and I can create that save my ad set. And now I've made sure that there's a value rule in there that up. If Metta decides to put any of my daily budget towards audience network, it will decrease it by 9%. So only 10% of my budget is going to go towards its network. So three things we can do here. First, if you can still exclude placements as normal in your ad set, go there and exclude audience, network and messenger. Most important, save the outset. Publish your ads. When that disappears, go to Account Settings and go into your placements and make sure that your turn off and untick Audience Network Save. That means that the ad account level anything you you start, any campaigns or ad sets you do will automatically exclude that. If that was to disappear. Your third part is value rules, where we can get rid of 90% of it. Okay, shows just how important Audience Network is to get rid of, and also why I'm not hugely worried about not being able to touch our placements. Apart from this, I don't want you to touch any placements. I don't touch any of the placements in any of my eyes. Even if we go into our reporting and we see that everything's going to the feed or everything's go to the is brilliant, that's great education. I love to see what videos statics might be working in certain placements. We can do more of it, but overall I leave. I like to leave it all to meta to make sure it's got a much as much access to all the placements to try and get our good content in front of good prospects to bring them into our ecosystem. I hope that helps. I will be doing a video on this later this week, so check my YouTube channel for a video on this and then you can see it. But apart from that, have a good one.
